Quarter 1Quarter 1
A new beginning. New shoes, new teachers, maybe even a new school. With change comes a range of feelings: scared, excited, shy, nervous. These are all very normal, and teachers often feel some of these same emotions. But I want this school year to be fun and exciting. Making new friends and learning new information seems hard sometimes. My hope for each of my students is that everyone feels safe, comfortable and secure. If there's ever a time you feel like you're struggling, can't keep up or just overwhelmed, PLEASE address this right away. If you don't tell me, I don't know. They didn't teach us mind reading in college :) To help ease you into our first days together, please read the following that covers what we will be learning in math and science this year. In MATH I want every student to walk out the door with confidence in what they did that day. We will begin the school year covering place value to the millions and thousandths as well as rounding. We will round whole numbers and decimals as far as the hundredths place. In addition to this we will also be looking at adding and subtracting decimals, multi-digit multiplication and long division, incorporating decimals along the way. Order of operations and interpreting expressions will be covered as well. You can see details in our math standards by clicking on the button on the AZ Common Core Standards page of this website. For SCIENCE we get to cover the Solar System in quarter 1. We will be learning all about each of the planets including what they are made of, important characteristics about each one as well as the order in which they appear in our Solar System. Space vessels that have either successfully or unsuccessfully ventured out into the depths of space will be researched and presented to the class. We will also be tracking and identifying the various stages in the lunar cycle. Lastly, Space Camp will be in Prescott for 2 nights in October. This is our one and only field trip for the year. It's so much fun! More details will come out throughout the quarter. |
